Easy button for online shopping- tips and tricks

There was a time that I swore up and down that I would NEVER purchase my clothing online. Not me. No way. End of story. I just knew in my heart that if I didn’t try it on first, I wouldn’t know if it was “the one” for my closet.
Four young kids, ups and downs with my weight, and a chaotic life and closet later I knew that I needed to change something or I would never get dressed. The final nail on the coffin was when I needed to find a simple black dress for a funeral and it took 4 hours of hunting through the mall with 4 wild, rambunctious and very bored kids trailing me. This could not go on! So when my sister opened her online clothing boutique I was so ready to give it a try.
Now that’s how I do the majority of my clothe’s shopping and I have a learned a lot over the years that I am going to pass on in this post to give you hope that you can get this down to and clothes shopping can become
easier and better. It’s a skill just like any other and once learned it can open up a world where you have more variety of clothes available to you and it can go much faster.
Let’s go through these three tips to make the clothes shopping experience just a a little easier and lift a burden below.

No 1: Use multiple data points when deciding on a purchase
Did you know that sizing issues account for 64% of online clothing returns? The solution is to use multiple data points when deciding what to purchase. The best websites and retailers will try and give you as much information as they can to help you decide what to purchase. They want to help you make a great decision and feel good about it! That’s the basics of integrity and good service.
Successful online clothing shoppers use more than one data point from the website to determine if the size they are getting will be the right fit for them. Look for some or all of the following when trying to decide:
- All the pictures of the piece. The best ones have pictures of the piece from many different angles and will show the piece on different models. At the very least it’s important to see it on a model so that you can see how the piece shows up on an actual human.
- Look at the size chart. It will give you a baseline for the sizing of the piece and what it “should” translate to in sizes that you are familiar with.
- Look at the information for the piece. Know what kind of fabric is used, the model measurements, and wash instructions. It’s so frustrating to get a beautiful piece in the mail and realize you are only going to wear it a few times because it is dry clean only and your life is too messy for that or that you thought it would have a nice cozy t-shirt feel with a little stretch but this piece is a stiff cotton that has no room for weight shifts.
- Most importantly look at the reviews. See where people have had problems with the fit and sizing of the garment or the website pictures so you know how to adjust to get what you are looking for.
All these are clues that will help you know if a piece will work for you. I eat this data up when I am trying to decide on a clothing purchase. For example, if I know that the model in the picture is taller than I am it helps give me a better idea of where that piece will fall on my body. Size charts are great, but I find that they are often off a little from my body. If I can use the size chart to determine the baseline of where my size fits into their clothing then I can use that knowledge as I read the reviews to determine if the chart is on point or needs to be adjusted to go up or down.
It’s the times I don’t look at all these points that get in trouble and often need to take things back
My favorite part about shopping with LuLaRoe is that once I have determined my base LuLaRoe size, then I can quickly adjust the charts from there to see what I like. I love my clothing to be a little more on the fitted
side instead of the flowy size so I can use the reviews of my fellow retailers to determine what size I want to snag that cute unicorn piece in for myself.
Currently my website is in the process of adding all this important information to the sales page of each piece and have a weekly style review on the blog. In the meantime, if something catches your eye please reach out to me and let me know what you need to see. I have personally tried on and owned most of these pieces and have access to pictures of wonderful retailers wearing these pieces in different body sizes to help you make most of your clothing dollars and not have to make a return if possible.
No 2: Know the return policy of the website
Let me know if this sounds familiar to you at all. I once found the cutest butterfly dress online that checked all the boxes for style perfection for me. I eagerly bought it and couldn’t wait for it to arrive. But when the day came that my dress arrived I found that the colors were just off from the picture and there were a few style points with the garment that I hadn’t noticed in my excitement of the cute print that made the purchase a total dud.
Que the long sigh… it is no fun to have to take things back but sometimes that is part of the learning process of shopping for clothes (even in person). To my horror though, the website had a horrible return policy and I could only get a credit for my purchase less a restocking and shipping fee. Ouch! Had I known I would never have shopped there! Shoppers are 40% more satisfied with their purchases when the site has a good return policy for those just in case things don’t work out times.
LuLaRoe has the Happiness Policy to ensure that each piece you buy is something you love and will become a unicorn in your closet. If you don’t love your purchase and are completely satisfied you can contact the retailer who sold you the piece and get a full return within the first 30 days or within the first 90 days you can contact any LuLaRoe Retailer for a credit or exchange. How amazing is that! They stand by their quality and want you to feel all the love that went into getting these pieces made to you and help restore your happiness. (See https://lularoe.com/pages/happiness-policy for the complete policy)
I like to up the value a little bit for my customers. I realize that it is always a leap of faith to purchase a piece of clothing online and hard to have to pay the return shipping for something that you never got to see or try on before hitting the check out button in the cart. For every $125 that you spend from me you can contact me for one free return shipping label that will be emailed to you to help with the return process for any reason within those first 90 days. I get that sometimes the real life just doesn’t add up to the hope of a picture when you get it on your body. That’s okay! I want to stand not just behind my product, but also behind my customers so they can build a wardrobe that they truly love.
No 3: Stick to a few trusted brands
I was once a part of this style group that would come out with links a few times a week to a selection of different clothes and accessories that were hand selected for my style type. This seemed like it would save me so much time on the outside and I was eager to use the service until I started using it and very quickly got frustrated with the wide range in prices of the selected items and the wide variety of stores that I had to sign up for accounts and learn their process and how they work. There went my savings in time and the simplicity I was hoping for.
There is research to back up my experience as well. Those who shop from only 3-5 trusted brands are found to be up to 35% more satisfied with their shopping experiences over those who shop from a wide variety of stores. This makes total sense to me and is so much easier on the brain. When you get to know a brand you have the advantage of knowing what to expect in terms of the fabric they tend to use, the fits that they have, and sales you can take advantage of.
It can also become a community, a place that is there is to cheer you on and help you be successful. I am very picky about my dentist and who I will let work with my mouth after a few bad experiences. What I love about my current one is that they always great me by name and with a smile when I come in, they remember what we talked about at my last cleaning 6 months ago and check in with me about my life, and they make me feel good about my next steps and answer my questions and cheer me on even when things are less than perfect for whatever reason. We wear clothes every day of our lives- what difference can it make to have a cheerleader who can appreciate our efforts as we try and navigate the journey of finding our own personal style and discover the beauty that is both inside and out?
I hope these tips have helped you see a few ways that you can be more successful at shopping for clothes online and make your life just a little easier.
