Light Fall Layers: Cheryl Cardigan Review

Light Fall Layers: Cheryl Cardigan Review

If I’m being honest, Fall makes me a little sad. It has always felt like the beginning of the end to me. I love summer, and it’s hard to let go of those warm, lovely days and nights and prepare for less light and more cold. I hate trading in my flip-flops and time spent at parks, hiking, and sitting on the porch for more time indoors—and for tennis shoes.

But there are benefits to Fall too, and I try to list them in my mind every day so I can enjoy the season as well. One of my favorites is watching the leaves turn into all those beautiful colors in the canyons—and the fact that, on most days, I can still take a walk outside in the afternoon. The trick, I’ve found, is having the right layers, and my favorite of all is the Cheryl Cardigan. It’s lightweight, comes in lots of fun colors, and those cute details on the back have my heart. It’s not your run-of-the-mill, boring, old cardigan—oh no! I might have a small collection in several colors… they really are the best.

Sizing and Fit

The Cheryl Cardigan is meant to have a relaxed fit—and for once, I agree! I always buy mine true to size. I usually leave it unbuttoned, but the fit still gives me the option to button it up if I want to, creating some shape and a nice, stylish look. I suspect I could go down a size if I really needed to, but I wouldn’t go up—it would feel too loose. The arms are just right: not too loose, not too tight. A great middle.

Fabric and Feel

The Cheryl Cardigan comes in two fabrics: a lightweight hacci (95/5 polyester and spandex blend) and a sweater knit (100% polyester). I own both.

The lightweight hacci is silky smooth and airy, but it has a bit more weight than the sweater knit. It doesn’t include the extra back detailing my sweater knit ones do, but instead has a button placket that runs through the neck. The fabric is very stretchy.

The sweater knit has a v-shaped detail on the back and usually comes in solid colors. It’s very lightweight and includes an extra button on the tag, just in case. The fabric has only a little stretch. I love the variety of solid shades and tend to pair them with my patterned shirts to anchor the look.

Practical Features

The Cheryl Cardigan has the following details that give it extra cuteness and wow factor:

  • Rib knit cuffs and bottom hem
  • Custom v-shape cutout on the back (sweater knit)
  • Center front button placket through the neck (hacci)
  • Dye-to-match buttons
  • A flattering mid-hip length

Clothing Care

I’m the type of person who avoids the dry cleaners and tends to spill things on myself throughout the week, so I need clothes I can wash at home. The Cheryl Cardigan can be machine washed cold on the gentle cycle. The instructions suggest laying it flat to dry, but I usually hang mine on a hanger with the sleeves draped carefully across the lower bar in my bathroom. It dries quickly and is ready later that day or by the next morning.

Following the care instructions helps keep your cardigan looking new much longer. The fabric can pill if you don’t treat it properly—so yes, the hang-dry step really matters.

When to Wear Cheryl

I would wear Cheryl…

  • Every day
  • At church
  • On a date
  • When giving a training for my school
  • Business casual settings
  • Hanging out at home on a chill day

How to Style Cheryl

Cheryl is a great transition sweater that pairs well with:

  • A blouse or t-shirt with denim or another bottom
  • A blouse and skirt
  • A dress

About the only thing I wouldn’t pair Cheryl with is athleisure wear.
